Setting up your own blog is a journey without a destination. I believe this journey will take multiple and winding paths as I explore. I hope to have fun … after all that’s one of the habits of successful learners.
And, such a journey does require courage … especially if you are making your posts public. I have to decide how public to be since I will use my own name, as we are encouraged to do.
Later: My courage wavered; however, I’m determined to post something. We librarians are a congenial group, kind to our patrons and to each other.
But there are others! Recently, I read about the sad case of Michelle Meier, a young teen-ager, broken-hearted by massive online rejection. She committed suicide. And she’s not the only young person to be devastated by anonymous postings. The online world can be very cruel, wrong, and driven to vigilante action. I commend our library for having the title, “And Words Can Hurt Forever.”
So, I ask, how does one live in the virtual world so that we engage one another without being cruel?
So, I’m off, finally to explore and find out what this world is like. I think my skin is tough enough!
